Time Consuming Activities for Bloggers

Are you aware of time wasters that distract you from blogging your best and spending your time on blog activities that really matter? Check out this list. You may just be guilty of one of them!

1.Comment hopping

Leaving comments to gain you blog exposure and peer camaraderie is not bad. What's bad is when you lose time doing so such that you've spent your whole day in the process of leaving your blog link one by one, inching your way to traffic whereas you could have easily tweaked your SEO and gained hundreds of visitors getting searched thru google.

2.Stat spying

Monitoring your stats counter is a good thing if done periodically and strategically. For new bloggers however, the excitement of seeing the slightest kind of increase in their blog visitors can get addicting and waste the time that could have been spent better in writing blog content or submitting sites to relevant directories, blogcarnivals and article banks.

3.Adsense Tracking

Similar to the excitement of seeing an increase in one's visitors is the excitement in seeing an increase in your google adsense earnings. I've been hooked in that and my sister teased me that I've been looking at my adsense stats the way brokers look into the stock market. A little excitement would be nice but try to minimize this as it may waste your time and even dampen your enthusiasm when you don't immediately get the earnings you desire. Have a fixed schedule looking at this. A weekly schedule would do for a start.

4.Chatting or Twittering

One of the temptations that immediately open when we start to use the net is the temptation of chatting in whatever mode you may find yourself hooked into. Whether it be microblogging such as using twitter or plurk, or the usual YM, you might just find yourself talking more and more about trivial things rather than doing something that really counts.

5.Watching Youtube Videos

It's entertaining, no doubt about it. And you could even have the excuse that you're looking for a relevant video to put in your blog. Well, have you found it? Was it right after watching three videos that sucked away your time? Well, at least you've been entertained.

6.Answering Nasty Blog Comments

Let's face it. We can't please everyone. No matter how much you've researched your article, no matter how many millions of brain cells you've used just to write it, there is always some idiot in there who can find something to criticize your article for. Must you waste your time for that kind of person?

7.Downloading Every Free Item You Can Find

Not every free item that's available on the web is really free. It comes at a certain cost – a subscription, a spam mail, a wasted time. Don't download every free item out there. Get only what's relevant and something you could read or use right away, and not take up additional space on your hard drive.

Time is precious. It's the most valuable commodity you've got, and it's no different for bloggers. You've only got a very limited time to do what you've go to do and stay ahead of the game. Time lost is money lost. Do things more efficiently and you'll have more time later on to do the things you'd really enjoy. Think of the people you could influence and help through your writing. They couldn't wait to read the next useful blog post from you. Would you have them wait longer?

Thank you for this insightful article. I feel like I've been drowning in blog-activities. I'm guilty of time-wasting. The bad thing about it is that I don't have very much of it!
